A tragic incident unfolded as a baby boy lost his life in a brutal attack by the family’s pit bull mix pet. The father, Blake Bates, from Ohio, recently admitted to involuntary manslaughter following the death of his six-month-old son, Royal Bates, at the jaws of the dog named Kilo. The Marion County Prosecutor, Ray Grogan, disclosed that Kilo had a prior history of aggressive behavior.

Bates and his partner, Alyssa Smith, had left the infant and another child unattended with the pit bull while they were away. During their absence, the dog viciously attacked Royal, causing fatal injuries to his skull. Disturbing footage captured the couple in a frantic state as paramedics attempted to save the baby, who unfortunately succumbed to his injuries despite being rushed to the hospital.

In a bid to prevent further harm, authorities euthanized the aggressive dog. Prosecutor Grogan highlighted Bates’ disregard for warnings about the dog’s violent tendencies, especially after a previous incident where it had attacked a child in the neighborhood. The tragic outcome underscored the perils of irresponsible pet ownership and the dire consequences it can have.

Grogan criticized Bates for failing to safeguard his child and take necessary precautions, given Kilo’s history of aggression. The guilty plea reflects accountability for a preventable tragedy that claimed the life of an innocent infant. Smith awaits sentencing for child endangerment related to the incident.

Bates faces a three-year sentence for involuntary manslaughter, in addition to charges for other offenses, including assaulting a woman and attempting to escape custody. Grogan emphasized the importance of responsible dog ownership, especially around children, particularly with breeds known for their aggression.

The incident follows another dog attack involving an XL Bully breed in Nottinghamshire, where a man sustained severe facial injuries. Police responded to the scene after the dog attacked its owner and a friend, resulting in the man being hospitalized for extensive bite wounds and facial trauma. The dog was safely restrained and taken into custody by authorities for further evaluation.
