Cheryl Tweedy’s stalker, Daniel Bannister, 50, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison and given an extended lifetime restraining order. The Reading Crown Court heard that Bannister left the former Girls Aloud singer feeling “stunned” and “terrified” after showing up at her Buckinghamshire residence for the fourth time in June.
This latest prison term marks the third time Bannister has been jailed for breaching a restraining order related to Cheryl, 42. During sentencing, His Honour Judge Blake emphasized Bannister’s high risk of reoffending and the need for immediate custody due to his lack of consideration for Cheryl’s well-being.
Although Cheryl did not attend court, a victim impact statement presented by prosecution barrister Leandra Smith revealed the emotional distress caused by Bannister’s repeated intrusions. Cheryl expressed feeling constantly fearful and the impact it has had on her and her young child, leading her to rely on security and loved ones for support.
In Bannister’s defense, Mr. Allen Wellington highlighted the absence of physical violence or threats towards Cheryl. Bannister, previously convicted of manslaughter in 2012, had already served prison time for breaching restraining orders by approaching Cheryl’s home in the past.
The court learned that in separate incidents, Bannister rang Cheryl’s intercom claiming he had come to see her and later requested a drink, demonstrating persistent unwanted behavior. Despite being a former figure skater, Bannister denies having any mental health issues.
Cheryl, formerly known as Cheryl Cole, was previously married to ex-footballer Ashley Cole. Their divorce occurred over a decade ago.
