An air ambulance accident caused chaos on a busy highway, leaving three individuals severely injured. The helicopter, returning from a hospital transport mission, encountered an emergency and crashed on Monday evening. Emergency responders, including the Sacramento Fire Department, rushed to the scene to assist the pilot, nurse, and paramedic who were critically injured.

Remarkably, no other individuals on Highway 50 were harmed despite the helicopter crash-landing in the middle of the road. Witnesses described the helicopter rapidly descending, prompting traffic to slow down. Rescue crews worked tirelessly to free a woman trapped under the wreckage, requiring a coordinated effort to lift the aircraft and extract her.

Reports indicated white smoke billowing from the downed helicopter, causing a significant traffic backlog. The eastbound lanes of Highway 50 were temporarily closed as emergency services attended to the incident. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by authorities.

REACH Air Medical Services, the helicopter operator, expressed concern for those affected and stated they are actively assessing the situation and the well-being of their crew members. Councilwoman Lisa Kaplan, who witnessed the aftermath, emphasized the importance of appreciating the dedication of law enforcement and medical personnel in such emergencies.

The Sacramento Fire Department confirmed the incident, mentioning the critical condition of the three helicopter occupants and clarifying that no vehicles were involved in the crash.
