Two individuals have been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of two young men who were struck by a pickup truck while riding an e-bike home from a pub. The convicted individuals, Alex Rose and Charles Pardoe, were found guilty of intentionally crashing into William Birchard and Darren George on a motorway slip road in Surrey.

Rose received a minimum sentence of 32 years and 308 days behind bars, while Pardoe was sentenced to a minimum of 28 years and 178 days. The incident occurred when the victims encountered Rose and his friends, who were searching for suspected burglars near Rose’s home. The collision resulted in the death of Birchard and severe injuries to George.

Prosecutors described the collision as a deliberate act of violence, with Rose and his accomplices pursuing the victims at high speeds before crashing into them. Despite the tragic outcome, Rose made no attempt to assist the injured victims and instead fled the scene.

The court heard that Rose’s girlfriend, Tara Knaggs, was implicated in helping Rose evade authorities by arranging travel plans for him to leave the country. Knaggs was found guilty of assisting an offender, along with Rose and Pardoe who were convicted of murder.

The tragic incident unfolded due to Rose’s mistaken belief that the victims were attempting to burglarize his property. The prosecution emphasized that the events leading to the fatal collision were not accidental but a result of deliberate and reckless actions by the perpetrators. Pardoe was also held accountable for his role in encouraging and supporting Rose throughout the pursuit that led to the fatal outcome.

The Crown Prosecution Service highlighted the senseless loss of life caused by the defendants’ misguided actions, emphasizing the need for accountability in such cases of intentional harm and disregard for human life.
