Vodafone has introduced a new method of web connectivity. Instead of relying on traditional copper or fiber optic cables, the company’s latest Wi-Fi router utilizes a 5G mobile signal to download files and stream videos.
This innovation caters to households without access to faster full fiber connections or those seeking enhanced flexibility. The portable nature of the device is particularly appealing to renters and students who frequently change residences.
One of the key advantages of this new router is its simple installation process. Since it operates on Vodafone’s network, there is no need for professional installation or drilling holes in walls. Users can easily set it up by plugging it in, turning it on, and gaining instant internet access.
It’s important to note that this system offers speeds of up to 150Mbps, which is suitable for activities like streaming movies on Netflix, sending emails, and working from home. However, it falls short of the speeds provided by full fiber connections, which can exceed 900Mbps.
For reference, downloading a full HD movie using this 5G router would take approximately 8 minutes, compared to just 40 seconds with a fiber gigabit connection. To assist consumers in making informed decisions, Vodafone is launching an integrated availability checker on their website to help users determine the fastest connection option for their area.
Vodafone had previously offered web access via 5G through its GigaCube device, which has now been replaced by this new router. Rob Winterschladen, Vodafone’s Consumer Director, highlighted the benefits of Vodafone 5G Broadband, emphasizing the speed, value, and convenience it offers to households.
In addition to Vodafone’s service, Three, now part of Vodafone, also provides a similar broadband solution. Vodafone’s plans start at £21 per month, while Three’s home broadband is currently priced at £11 for the initial nine months.
