Numerous families are eagerly awaiting updates regarding their deceased relatives following the revelation of 24 decomposed bodies and several containers of human remains concealed in a secret chamber at a funeral home.

The startling find occurred at Davis Mortuary in August during an inspection conducted by officials from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, carried out for the first time under a recent state legislative enactment.

The establishment is under the ownership of former Pueblo County Coroner Brian Cotter and his sibling, Chris. Brian Cotter resigned a week after the inspection transpired.

To date, six out of the 24 bodies recovered have been positively identified, and their families have been duly informed following a meticulous identification process as described by the agency.

Clint Thomason, Assistant Director of Investigations at the CBI, mentioned that it is now believed the majority of the bodies discovered at Davis Mortuary passed away between 2010 and 2012.

Thomason confirmed, “The recovered remains are estimated to be from the period between 2010 and 2012. Currently, our understanding is that all the remains likely date back to that specific time frame.”

He further explained that due to the paper-based record system at Davis Mortuary, the investigation is progressing slowly as all reviews need to be conducted manually. The process of identifying all the remains could extend over several months.

Thomason also indicated that the investigative team intends to confirm the identity of all the bodies before initiating any legal actions. He stated, “We have been closely collaborating with the district attorney and have opted not to file charges incrementally. Our strategy is to compile all charges simultaneously. We believe this approach will best serve the case and ensure that justice is served.”

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) declared its commitment to continuing the identification process for the remaining 18 bodies using dental records, fingerprints, and DNA analysis.

Subsequently, a man has stepped forward to disclose that his granddaughter was among the 24 bodies discovered inside Davis Mortuary.

As per John Cordova, his daughter tragically lost her baby in 2012, and the family sought the services of Davis Mortuary for the baby’s cremation, as reported by 11 News.

Now, after 13 years, Cordova revealed that the CBI contacted the family, informing them that investigators were ‘confident’ one of the 24 improperly handled bodies within the funeral home was their baby.

Regarding the unsettling discovery, Cordova expressed numerous concerns, stating, “The uncertainty surrounding the contents of the urn they provided us with is a significant question that weighs on our minds.”
