An unsettling glitch has surfaced in a number of Android devices, as users are noticing a rapid depletion of their phone batteries even when they are not actively using their phones. This issue seems to have emerged following a recent software update. Observers at 9to5Google have identified a surge in complaints from Android users on various forums, with one individual stating that they now need to charge their phone three times daily to maintain its battery life.
So, which devices are impacted, and what steps will be taken next?
According to reports, the battery issue has affected Google’s Pixel phone lineup, prompting the tech giant in the US to acknowledge the problem and assure users that a solution is being investigated.
Among the devices experiencing this issue are the Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel 7A.
9to5Google has indicated that the root cause of the problem may be related to excessive CPU wakeups, resulting in continuous background operation of the phone even when it is idle.
This issue is causing significant inconvenience, as highlighted by a user named Phil who shared, “Both my phone and my wife’s Pixel 7A have been experiencing this problem since mid-March. The phones unexpectedly drop from 20% to 0%, charge slowly, and lose battery power even when turned off.”
Another Pixel owner, Fz, mentioned, “After the March update, my Pixel 9 Pro XL started facing battery drain issues. I now have to charge my phone three times a day post-update. The battery depletes overnight even after a full charge before sleeping. It’s incredibly frustrating.”
Nevertheless, not all Pixel users seem to be affected, with a user named Warren confirming, “No battery drain issues with my Pixel 9 Pro. It was fully charged at 6:30am and remains at 79% at 3:20 in the afternoon.”
It is expected that Google will address this concern promptly and release an update in the near future. We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.
