Tennis icon Novak Djokovic recently addressed concerns regarding Jannik Sinner’s doping case and subsequent suspension in early 2025. The Italian player accepted a three-month ban after testing positive twice in 2024.
Initially, Sinner escaped punishment when a tribunal determined that the positive tests for clostebol, an anabolic steroid, were due to contamination during a massage by his fitness coach. The Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) found Sinner not at fault for the March 2024 results.
In response to criticism, the ITIA defended its handling of Sinner’s case and refuted claims of preferential treatment. Sinner eventually served his suspension from February to May, allowing him to participate in the French Open.
Djokovic, who lost to Sinner in various tournaments, shared his perspective on the situation. He expressed surprise at the incident, believing Sinner did not intentionally violate doping rules. Djokovic criticized the handling of the case, pointing out issues like lack of transparency and the timing of the ban to avoid major tournaments.
The article also briefly mentioned Djokovic’s own controversial stance on vaccination during the COVID-19 pandemic. Djokovic clarified that he advocated for freedom of choice regarding vaccination.
On a separate note, Sky has announced a discount on its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the upcoming season, offering more than 1,400 live matches, including at least 215 Premier League games.
