A new “special collaboration” was recently announced in preparation for the upcoming Children in Need appeal show, scheduled to air in less than two months. Several celebrities are anticipated to participate in this televised fundraising event.

It has been disclosed that Tom Fletcher, aged 40, has partnered with BBC Children in Need and publisher Puffin for this initiative. The renowned McFly singer has penned a fresh picture book titled “Pudsey and the Thread of Hope,” featuring illustrations by Joris Bergmans, set for release in November.

Tom, known for his previous children’s book creations, is backing the Challenge Yourself campaign for this year’s appeal. He undertook the challenge to craft something truly unique, embodying the spirit of the charity and its iconic mascot.

The new book is described as “magical and moving,” commemorating 40 years of Pudsey’s legacy and the charity’s essential support for children and youth in the UK. The BBC has announced that for each paperback sold in the UK and Ireland, £1 will be contributed to Children in Need.

“Pudsey and the Thread of Hope” narrates the story of Jai, a child grappling with grief following his father’s passing. Together with Pudsey, he embarks on a journey of healing and hope, encountering other children united by a golden thread of kindness, unveiling the transformative power of friendship, courage, and love.

Tom expressed his excitement about crafting this enchanting tale that brings Pudsey’s endearing qualities to life on the pages, aiming to raise funds through the project to provide crucial support and care to children and youth facing daunting challenges.

Claire Hoyle, Chief Campaigns & Engagement Officer at BBC Children in Need, lauded the book for capturing the essence of hope and resilience represented by Pudsey, emphasizing the charity’s commitment to helping children feel acknowledged, supported, and empowered.

Joe Marriott, the picture book publisher at Puffin, expressed delight in publishing this enchanting story by the esteemed storyteller Tom Fletcher, highlighting their pride in collaborating to promote awareness of the valuable work undertaken by Children in Need and sharing this heartwarming and optimistic narrative.

This collaboration is not the first between Tom and Children in Need. Last year, he designed the official t-shirt for the 2024 appeal with his wife Giovanna Fletcher, transforming the t-shirt into a band-style tee as a creative tribute to the charity.

The paperback version of “Pudsey and the Thread of Hope” is set to release on November 6 and is currently available for pre-order. The BBC Children in Need 2025 appeal show is scheduled to be broadcast on November 14.
