Mitchell Lawrie has made history by becoming the youngest player ever to secure three senior men’s titles, surpassing the previous record set by Luke Littler. The talented Scottish teenager claimed victory at the WDF Irish Classic held in Killarney on Saturday night, just four days after turning 15.

In an impressive final match, Lawrie defeated Ronan McDonagh 5-1, showcasing remarkable performance with four 180s and an average score of 98.60. Prior to this, he also clinched the Irish Classic Youths title by defeating Kaya Basal 4-1, boasting an average score of 90.95.

Lawrie’s family, including his father Fraser and grandfather Dougie, were present at the INEC Arena in Kerry, Ireland, cheering him on as he secured another championship title. Lawrie’s achievement at the age of 15 years and 5 months beats Littler’s record by five months. He is now set to compete in the upcoming men’s and youth WDF world championships at Lakeside later this month.

On a different note, the reigning PDC World Champion is gearing up to defend his title at Alexandra Palace. Lawrie, who previously won the British Open and Welsh Open earlier this year, is preparing for a potential showdown with his predecessor.

Lawrie will have to wait until he turns 16 to compete against Littler in PDC competitions. Despite the comparisons to Littler, Lawrie’s family remains focused on his individual journey. In an interview with The Sun, Lawrie’s grandfather, Dougie, emphasized their support for Lawrie’s unique path in the sport.

Dougie proudly mentioned that he taught Lawrie how to play darts, instilling in him a competitive spirit from a young age, which has contributed to Lawrie’s success on the dartboard.

Looking back at the history of darts, before the rise of modern stars like Luke Littler, Michael van Gerwen, and Luke Humphries, the sport had its own golden era with legendary players such as Eric Bristow, Jocky Wilson, and John Lowe. As the World Championship approaches, fans are reminiscing about these iconic figures in the game.
