Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and Donald Trump are proposed to oversee temporary governance in Gaza under a new plan introduced by the US President. The plan, revealed during a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Trump, outlines measures to halt the conflict in Palestine and establish new administration in Gaza. Hamas has acknowledged the plan verbally but is yet to receive a written copy.
The proposal entails the formation of a temporary governing body led by Trump and featuring Tony Blair. It emphasizes the immediate cessation of hostilities if both parties agree and mandates the release of all remaining hostages within 72 hours of Israel’s acceptance. Trump, following the meeting with Netanyahu, urged Palestinians to take charge of their future, underscoring the significance of the responsibility provided to them.
While expressing optimism for peace, Trump stressed full US support for Israel in combating Hamas if the peace accord is rejected. He described the initiative as a significant step towards achieving everlasting peace in the Middle East. Netanyahu echoed Trump’s sentiments, lauding the US President’s commitment to resolving the Gaza conflict.
The peace proposal, which awaits Hamas’ approval, comprises 20 key points, with specific details undisclosed. Reports suggest amnesty for Hamas fighters and safe passage for their leaders to depart Gaza. Notably, Trump is rumored to have designated himself to lead the peacekeeping body in Gaza, with limited information available as both US and Israeli officials declined to elaborate.
During his US visit, Netanyahu apologized to Qatar’s Prime Minister for an inadvertent military strike that resulted in casualties and violated Qatari sovereignty. The initiative received backing from Egyptian and Emirati leaders, who emphasized the importance of supporting the peaceful resolution.
Protesters outside the US diplomatic office in Tel Aviv demanded the immediate return of Israeli hostages, urging Trump to intervene for their release. The demonstrations coincided with the UK’s formal recognition of Palestine, as announced by Keir Starmer, who commended the US initiative for peace in Gaza.
Starmer reiterated support for Trump’s efforts to end the conflict swiftly and provide humanitarian aid to Gaza residents. He called for collective cooperation to finalize the agreement, urging Hamas to accept the plan and cease hostilities. The goal is to establish a lasting ceasefire and pave the way for sustainable peace in the region, fostering security for both Palestinians and Israelis.
