Despite his wealthy background and business connections, which could attract donors to Reform, Zahawi’s switch to the party may raise questions about their anti-establishment stance.
The defection of Zahawi has stirred tensions within the Conservative Party, with reports suggesting he sought a peerage before joining Reform, an accusation he denies. Zahawi’s move aligns him with other Boris Johnson loyalists who have switched to Reform, indicating a lack of confidence in Johnson’s political future.
