David Lammy criticizes Nigel Farage’s “discount patriotism,” warning that it will have a negative impact on Britain. Lammy, who serves as Deputy PM, condemned Farage’s proposal to revoke indefinite leave to remain, labeling it as racist. During a speech at the Labour Party Conference, Lammy emphasized that Farage’s policies do not align with British values despite his patriotic facade.

Describing Farage’s plan as racist, Lammy urged the rejection of deporting individuals from diverse backgrounds who already possess indefinite leave to remain status. He stressed the importance of embracing genuine patriotism that uplifts society rather than succumbing to shallow nationalism that harms the country.

Drawing parallels with international political successes, Lammy encouraged the Labour Party to seek inspiration from progressive movements worldwide. He highlighted examples from countries like Australia, Canada, and Norway where progressive parties overcame significant deficits to secure victory by staying true to their core values.

Hundreds of thousands of residents in the UK could face expulsion under Reform UK’s proposal to eliminate Indefinite Leave to Remain if the party gains power. Opposition leader Keir Starmer criticized Farage’s agenda, warning that it could divide communities and emphasized the need to challenge such policies for the well-being of all residents. Starmer denounced Reform UK’s stance during an interview with the BBC at the onset of the Labour conference.
