Police have released a statement regarding the tragic passing of young apprentice jockey Tommie Jakes. Described as a ‘remarkable talent’ in the horse racing community, Jakes passed away shortly after his last race at Nottingham Racecourse. Jakes, who achieved 59 victories in just three seasons on the Flat, received numerous heartfelt tributes from those who knew him.

A moment of silence was observed at Chelmsford in honor of Jakes, who was scheduled to ride two horses trained by Ismail Mohammed at the event. Suffolk Police confirmed that they received a report of Jakes’ sudden death in Freckenham and stated that no foul play is suspected, with preparations underway for the coroner’s review.

In remembrance of Jakes, fellow jockeys have been wearing black armbands at racecourses as a gesture of respect. Paul Mulrennan, a prominent jockey, shared fond memories of Jakes, highlighting his cheerful demeanor and positive attitude.

Jakes, who was part of George Boughey’s team in Newmarket, sealed his final victory earlier this month aboard Fouroneohfever. Boughey praised Jakes not only for his riding skills but also for his kindness and hard work, emphasizing the significant loss felt by all who knew him.

The news of Jakes’ passing deeply affected Linda Perratt and her team, who fondly remembered his growth from a reserved boy to a confident young man. The racing community mourns the loss of Jakes, emphasizing the impact his absence has left.
