After nearly 36 years, two sisters have finally uncovered the truth regarding the fate of their mother after they were discovered abandoned as children in a public restroom.
Marina Ramos, 28, was found deceased and unclothed in December 1989, having been fatally stabbed. Her body was left in a secluded area covered with scrub, where it is believed she was murdered. At that time, her identity remained unknown.
Two days later, the two sisters were discovered alone but alive in a park restroom – Jasmin was two months old, and Elizabeth was 14 months old. According to police records, a passerby heard children crying inside the women’s restroom and found the girls lying on the damp floor with no adults in sight. The girls’ identities were also unknown, creating a mystery that endured for years.

It was only during this reopening that investigators managed to match fingerprints from Ramos’s arrest for shoplifting in California in June 1989 to her remains.
DNA samples from family members then revealed a ‘strong DNA match’ to one of her daughters, who had been raised in Ventura County and was now an adult. The two sisters finally learned their true identities and the identity of their biological mother.
“This is what I’ve been seeking and desiring for a very long time, to understand where I come from and who my family is,” said Jasmin, who is known by her adopted name Tina, in an interview with ABC15 Arizona.
Tina and Elizabeth, now known as Melissa, were informed of the news by sheriff’s office investigator Lori Miller.
“When [Miller] mentioned she was a homicide investigator, I had a strong feeling that she had information about my parents,” Elizabeth shared with the media outlet.
“Whether it was my mother or father, she had some knowledge. I just left the room without processing what was being said.”
However, the authorities have yet to identify a suspect in the murder of Ramos. The sheriff’s department stated, “While we are pleased to announce the resolution of one aspect of this
