Jenson Button has officially announced his retirement from the world of motorsport. The former 2009 world champion will make his final appearance at the Eight Hours of Bahrain in early November before bidding farewell to his racing career.

After concluding his Formula 1 journey in 2016 and returning for a one-off race at the 2017 Monaco Grand Prix, Button has since competed in various racing series, including the NASCAR Cup Series and the World Endurance Championship.

At 45 years old, Button, who also works as a pundit on Sky Sports F1, had previously indicated his intention to step back from full-time racing and leave his role with Jota Cadillac. He has now reaffirmed that he is closing the chapter on his racing days.

In an interview with BBC Radio Somerset, Button expressed, “This will be my final race. Bahrain has always been a track I enjoy, and I intend to savor every moment as this marks the conclusion of my professional racing career.”

Citing his busy life and the desire to spend more time with his young children, Button explained his decision to retire from competitive racing. Despite enjoying his time with Jota in the World Endurance Championship, he acknowledged the sacrifices required and the importance of being present for his family.

Following challenging races in Qatar and Imola, Button’s team showed resilience with strong performances at Spa and Le Mans, culminating in a podium finish in Sao Paulo. Alongside teammates Earl Bamber and Sebastien Bourdais, Button is focused on helping Cadillac in their battle for the American Manufacturers’ Championship against Porsche, with the team trailing by 22 points heading into the final round in Bahrain.

“We are still in contention for the Constructors’ Championship,” Button emphasized. “While winning will be tough, securing P2 is within reach. I look forward to the upcoming race in Bahrain, knowing it will mark the end of my professional racing journey.”

For fans of Formula 1, live coverage of every practice, qualifier, and race is available through Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, which includes access to around 100 TV channels, Netflix, and Discovery+ subscriptions.
