Struggling households are being encouraged to verify their eligibility for assistance with everyday expenses, such as vouchers and financial aid, in anticipation of the upcoming Budget.

Lightning Reach, a platform with more than 2,500 partners, assists individuals in discovering and applying for support programs. On average, users of Lightning Reach receive around £750 in assistance. The service has facilitated over £20 million in financial aid, comprising grants from councils and charities, since its launch in 2021.

Among the partners available on the Lightning Reach platform are the British Gas Energy Trust, TSB, and Lambeth Council. To determine eligibility, individuals can utilize the Lightning Reach application portal.

Ren Yi Hooi, the Founder and CEO of Lightning Reach, emphasized the importance of accessible support as households face potential financial strains from impending tax hikes in the Budget.

If you are concerned about managing your expenses, it is advisable to reach out to your service provider promptly to explore potential assistance options. This may involve reviewing your current plan for cost-saving opportunities or exploring temporary payment relief options.

Additionally, contacting your local council to inquire about eligibility for the Household Support Fund could provide further financial relief. This fund, distributed by councils to low-income households, offers various forms of aid, such as vouchers or direct cash payments based on the council’s discretion.

For instance, City of York Council recently initiated a scheme distributing one-time £100 payments from the Household Support Fund during the winter season. These payments are deposited directly into recipients’ bank accounts and do not require repayment, typically benefiting those receiving council tax support.

By actively seeking available support and exploring diverse assistance programs, households can navigate financial challenges effectively during these uncertain times.
