Novak Djokovic, the renowned tennis icon, faced a less favorable reception from fans in Greece during a recent basketball match in the country. Despite being a proud Serbian native, Djokovic surprised many by relocating his family to Athens earlier this year.

Apart from his tennis prowess, Djokovic is known for his avid interest in basketball, often seen supporting Serbian clubs like Red Star and Partizan. Recently, at a Euroleague game between Panathinaikos and Maccabi, Djokovic’s presence stirred controversy among local fans.

While Panathinaikos and Maccabi battled it out on the court, Djokovic and his son, Stefan, appeared on the arena’s big screen, triggering a chorus of boos from the crowd. This reaction, although unexpected, did not deter Djokovic, who remained engrossed in his phone during the incident.

Despite the negative reception, Djokovic later attended another basketball game where he was warmly welcomed by the crowd. The rivalry between Panathinaikos and Red Star added an interesting twist to the situation, highlighting Djokovic’s unique position in Greek sports culture.

With the ATP Finals approaching, Djokovic’s focus will soon shift back to tennis as he prepares to compete against top players like Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and Taylor Fritz for the coveted ATP title. The upcoming tournament in Turin will likely see Djokovic receive a much more positive reception from fans compared to the recent basketball event.
