Manny Pacquiao has verified ongoing discussions for a potential rematch with renowned boxer Floyd Mayweather. Negotiations, reportedly spearheaded by Netflix, are in progress to bring together these two iconic figures of contemporary boxing.

The duo previously clashed over a decade ago, generating over £500 million in US pay-per-view revenue for what was highly anticipated as the fight of a generation. Mayweather emerged victorious through a decisive victory, although the bout fell short of meeting the lofty expectations. Pacquiao attributed his underwhelming performance to a shoulder injury post-fight.

Having surprised the boxing world with his intentions for a rematch against Mayweather more than a year ago, Pacquiao remains eager for the opportunity. Mayweather, in response, demanded a significant $4 million payment from Pacquiao for prematurely announcing the talks.

Undeterred, the Filipino senator is once again promoting the possibility of a rematch, emphasizing Mayweather’s role in making it happen. Pacquiao expressed readiness for discussions, highlighting his active status in boxing as a key factor in the potential rematch.

Pacquiao emphasized his motivation post-injury, crediting his return to the ring to divine strength and good health. With a recent draw against Mario Barrios in July, Pacquiao aimed to claim the WBC welterweight title after a four-year hiatus from the sport, maintaining a busy schedule with seven fights between his Mayweather loss and his latest match.

In contrast, Mayweather’s professional engagements have been limited, with only two more fights recorded against Andre Berto and UFC star Conor McGregor, culminating in a flawless 50-0 record. Apart from these bouts, the 48-year-old has mainly participated in exhibition matches, including matchups against Logan Paul and John Gotti III.

Pacquiao, when asked about his top opponents, excluded Mayweather from the list, favoring other notable rivals like Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, and Antonio Margarito. Pacquiao criticized Mayweather’s defensive strategy in their bout, deeming it unexciting for fans who expected a more engaging and challenging fight experience.
