Police in Indiana have arrested a mother, Sophie Igou, 28, on charges of neglect after her 22-month-old child was discovered in a severe state of decay. Igou is facing multiple counts of neglect, including two counts resulting in the child’s death. Authorities set her bail at $2 million. The incident came to light when Igou called 911 to report finding her son dead in her trailer. Upon arrival, officers found the child malnourished and in an advanced state of decomposition.
Investigators described the living conditions in Igou’s home as unsanitary and hazardous, with evidence of neglect and hoarding. Igou seemed surprised when informed of the child’s condition and reportedly questioned her involvement in the situation. Her two other children were taken into custody by child services.
Court records revealed that the deceased child had not received medical attention for a significant period, and his weight at the time of death was only slightly higher than during his last doctor’s visit. Igou also faces neglect charges related to her eldest child’s lack of school enrollment.
