The upcoming weekend will see the Met Office issuing yellow weather warnings for certain regions. Two yellow rain warnings have been put in place for western Wales, eastern Northern Ireland, northern England, and southern areas of Scotland. The first warning, covering County Antrim and County Down in eastern Northern Ireland, will be active from 12pm on Saturday until 3am on Sunday. Forecasters have indicated a possibility of localized flooding in homes and businesses, along with potential delays and cancellations due to 20-40mm of rainfall expected, with some areas likely to experience 60-80mm.
Simultaneously, a second yellow rain warning is scheduled for southern Scotland, northern England, and western Wales from 9am on Saturday until 6am on Sunday. The Met Office has cautioned about a slight chance of power cuts, with a forecast of 20-40mm of rain across most regions, possibly reaching 75-100mm in some areas, particularly towards the later stages of the event. Additionally, strong gusty winds and thunder are expected to accompany the rainfall from mid-Saturday onwards, heightening the risk of disruptions.
Looking ahead, the Met Office predicts an unsettled weather pattern continuing into the weekend, with heavy and thundery showers anticipated on Saturday. Cooler conditions are expected from Sunday onwards, with further heavy rainfall moving southwards on Monday. As the week progresses, a division between northwest and southeast regions is foreseen. From September 22 to October 1, the Met Office forecasts a mix of weather conditions, with drier spells likely in the north and northwest, accompanied by possible fog and frost patches. Conversely, areas in the south and east may experience spells of rain or showers near a low-pressure system. Temperature-wise, a cooling trend is expected initially, followed by a gradual return to average temperatures. Towards the end of the period, a shift towards a more changeable weather pattern is a possibility, albeit uncertain.
