Driveways are a sought-after amenity for homeowners, providing convenience and accessibility. However, there are instances where individuals disregard the importance of allowing driveway access to others.

Being blocked in your own property due to someone parking irresponsibly can be incredibly frustrating and leave you feeling powerless. This lack of consideration for others’ needs can be seen as a sense of entitlement.

A Reddit user recently shared their experience of being in a similar predicament, highlighting how the situation was turned around on the driver who blocked their driveway. The user explained that their narrow street made street parking unsafe, and their proximity to a restaurant’s kitchen entrance meant delivery drivers usually parked across the street to avoid causing traffic disruptions.

Despite this unspoken understanding, one morning, a delivery driver parked next to the Reddit user’s driveway, hindering their exit. When asked to move, the driver refused, citing his hazard flashers as justification for his parking choice, displaying a sense of entitlement.

The homeowner, unwilling to overlook the situation, decided to take action. By strategically positioning their car to block the street and activating hazard lights, they mirrored the driver’s entitled behavior back at him. This unexpected response enraged the driver, who had to backtrack a considerable distance while the homeowner maintained their stance.

Instances of blocked driveways are not uncommon, and seeking resolution can be challenging. The police advise individuals to first try to identify the vehicle’s owner and request its removal. In areas with Civil Parking Enforcement (CPE), parking in a way that obstructs a driveway is an offense that can be reported to the local council for action.

If your local council enforces CPE, reporting vehicles blocking driveways directly to them is the recommended course of action. This proactive approach can help address instances of driveway obstruction effectively.
