London Mayor Sadiq Khan has criticized US President Donald Trump, accusing him of being racist, sexist, and Islamophobic. Trump recently referred to Khan as a “terrible” mayor during his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York, reigniting their ongoing feud.

Responding to Trump’s comments, Khan remarked that he seems to be constantly on the American leader’s mind, questioning why a Muslim mayor of a diverse and successful city like London is such a fixation for Trump. Khan further labeled Trump as racist, sexist, misogynistic, and Islamophobic.

In defense of his mayoral record, Khan highlighted the increasing number of American visitors to London and the city’s global reputation for culture, foreign investment, sports, and opportunities for its residents. He expressed pride in London’s standing as a vibrant and welcoming city.

Cabinet Minister Pat McFadden rebuffed Trump’s suggestion that London desires sharia law, emphasizing that the city operates under British law. Labour MPs stood in solidarity with Khan, praising his inclusive leadership and dismissing Trump’s unfounded allegations.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting emphasized Khan’s commitment to diversity and progress, while senior Labour MP Dame Emily Thornberry lauded Khan as a feminist, socialist, and LGBTQ+ supporter. Other Labour MPs condemned Trump’s remarks as deceitful and called for the US ambassador to be confronted over the President’s Islamophobic rhetoric.

The dispute between Khan and Trump continues to spark debate and criticism, with London’s diversity and Khan’s leadership receiving strong support from various political figures.
