In a bid to provide TV viewing options without monthly fees, households now have a wider array of choices. Freely, which debuted in 2024, initially offered live channel access through a broadband connection on select new TV models. However, in the last 18 months, more TV brands like Hisense, Toshiba, and Sharp have integrated Freely into their screens. Previously, viewers interested in Freely content had to purchase a new television from a tech retailer.
Fortunately, Manhattan’s technology team recently introduced the Aero 4K set-top box, enabling existing TVs to access the Freely service. The Aero 4K device offers free access to over 60 live channels and on-demand content, eliminating the need for costly subscriptions.
Among its features, the Aero 4K box includes voice search, personalized viewing recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live programming. Additionally, users with subscriptions to platforms like Disney+ and Netflix can access these apps through the device.
Priced at £69.99, the Aero 4K has gained popularity among consumers. Currys became the first UK retailer to offer the Manhattan Aero 4K, with the device quickly selling out. According to Currys, the device will be restocked soon, and interested buyers can sign up on the Currys website for alerts.
Upon restocking, the Aero 4K will compete with devices like Virgin’s Stream box and Sky Stream, all of which deliver content over the internet, eliminating the need for traditional aerials or dishes. Transitioning to streaming offers advantages such as simplified installation processes without requiring professional assistance and regular software updates.
The TV landscape is evolving rapidly, with Freely reporting over a million users. This trend is expected to continue as more viewers shift from conventional TV viewing methods to streaming services.
