Lewis Hamilton has once again reached out to Ferrari management, emphasizing the need for changes in the team’s operations. The seven-time world champion has faced challenges since joining Ferrari from Mercedes last year.
Despite his efforts, Hamilton, 40, has not achieved a podium finish with Ferrari and currently sits in sixth place in the drivers’ standings, trailing his teammate Charles Leclerc by 48 points.
Hamilton revealed during the Belgium Grand Prix in July that he has been submitting a series of “documents” to Ferrari throughout the season in an attempt to turn his fortunes around after a challenging start.
Reports in August indicated that Hamilton’s communications with Ferrari focus on proposed modifications to the car and the team’s operational procedures, particularly the coordination between different departments during race weekends.
According to the Italian publication Corriere della Sera, Hamilton has sent another communication to Ferrari’s top management, stressing the necessity for comprehensive changes within the team.
Sources suggest that Hamilton had anticipated having more influence on decision-making at Ferrari but has encountered unexpected challenges and internal conflicts within the team.
Hamilton’s situation at Ferrari has drawn comparisons to Sebastian Vettel, a four-time world champion who also struggled to instigate changes during his tenure at the team from 2015 to 2020.
Before joining Ferrari, Hamilton sought guidance from Vettel in January, engaging in discussions to prepare for his new role and exchange insights with the experienced world champion.
Following a pit lane incident during qualifying at the Singapore Grand Prix, Hamilton highlighted an area for improvement at Ferrari, pointing out the loss of tire temperature affecting performance on track.
Hamilton expressed concerns about the impact of temperature loss on their performance and suggested that faster outlaps with minimal waiting time in the pit lane could enhance their competitiveness.
