Vicente Modahl, a former Olympic coach affiliated with Team GB athletes, faces charges related to alleged child sex offenses and rape. The 65-year-old Norwegian, married to ex-Olympic middle-distance runner Diane Modahl, is accused of two counts of child rape and five counts of child sexual assault.

Known as Jose Vicente Leiva-Modahl, he previously resided in the UK and is also facing charges of two counts of inducing a child into sexual activity and two counts of child penetration assault.

The Crown Prosecution Service revealed that the 19 charges against Modahl, spanning from 2012 to 2024, include offenses such as adult female rape, adult female sexual assault, adult female sexual activity inducement, adult female penetration assault, and controlling and coercive behavior.

James Bolton-Smith, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for the CPS’s Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit, stated, “The Crown Prosecution Service has chosen to press charges against Vicente Leiva-Modahl for various serious sex crimes, including those linked to child sexual abuse.” Modahl is set to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Over his professional tenure, Modahl coached British and international athletes, including Team GB members and at least one Olympic gold medalist, spanning numerous decades. His LinkedIn profile also mentions his involvement as a FIFA-licensed sports agent.

In a cautionary statement, the CPS emphasized, “We emphasize that legal proceedings are ongoing against the suspect, who is entitled to a fair trial. It is crucial to avoid any reporting, commentary, or online information sharing that could potentially bias these proceedings.”
