Numerous websites and applications are currently inaccessible due to a widespread outage of Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS, a critical infrastructure provider for many online platforms, is facing technical difficulties, leading to disruptions in various digital services.

Impacted services include popular platforms like Snapchat, Slack, Ring, Signal, Virgin Media, BT, EE, Sky, and the online portals of major UK banks such as Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland. Moreover, the HMRC website is also experiencing downtime.

AWS has acknowledged the issue and reported progress in resolving it. A recent update states, “We are witnessing recovery in most affected AWS Services. Global services dependent on US-EAST-1 are also back online. We are actively working towards a complete resolution and will provide further updates.”

In a related development, there have been reports of errors in DynamoDB APIs within the US-EAST-1 Region, with DNS resolution being a possible root cause. This issue is affecting multiple AWS Services in that region, impacting services like IAM updates and DynamoDB Global tables.

Downdetector has recorded a surge in incident reports, with over 2,681 complaints related to AWS on Monday morning. Authorities from HMRC and Lloyds Bank have acknowledged the service disruptions caused by AWS and are working to restore full functionality to their respective platforms.

As the situation unfolds, users are advised to stay informed through reliable sources for updates on service restoration.
