A 15-year-old darts prodigy, Mitchell Lawrie, has left Luke Littler amazed with his exceptional performance at the WDF World Championship held at Lakeside. Lawrie made history by becoming the youngest player to triumph at Lakeside by defeating Tomoya Maruyama and Jason Brandon with impressive ease, showcasing remarkable skill with five maximums and precise checkouts.

Lawrie also achieved the highest average of 97.21 at the tournament. Littler expressed his astonishment towards Lawrie on the WDF Darts Instagram account, calling him outstanding. Following his victory over Brandon, Lawrie expressed his elation, stating he was thrilled with his performance against such a strong opponent who reached the semi-finals the previous year.

Lawrie started strong in the match, completing each leg in less than 15 darts and narrowly missing a nine-dart finish before executing a brilliant 134 checkout. Despite a brief setback when Brandon rallied, Lawrie regained his composure, impressively closing out the game. Lawrie acknowledged the support of the crowd, attributing their energy to his success.

Looking ahead, Lawrie acknowledged a slight lapse in focus towards the end of the match but credited Brandon’s competitiveness for reigniting his determination to secure victory. Lawrie admitted to some nerves during his final throws but remained composed despite missing the mark. Lawrie appreciated the crowd’s positive energy throughout the match.
